Chepstow Castle

.

The oldest post Roman Stone structure in the UK
Built by the Normans in 1067 on the banks of the River Wye at the lowest bridging point of the River Wye, it was a seat of power for for over 600 years, the castle was largely abandoned and left to ruin in the 17th Century,

 

Tintern Abbey

.

Impressive Ruins of 13th Century Gothic Abbey
Built by Norman Cistercian Monks in 1131, then rebuilt as a masterpiece of Gothic Architecture in 1269.
The Abbey was closed and abandoned in 1536 during the reformation of King Henry VII.

Raglan Castle

.Always a popular stop, with stunning views across the Monmouthshire countryside towards Bannau Brycheiniog. Built throughout the 15th & 16th Century. Raglan Castle was built to impress, not intimidate. It has been a popular tourist destination for nearly 200 years
.

Caerleon

If there is time, the tour will visit Caerleon before heading back to Cardiff. The Romans called it Isca when they based the largest Legion in Wales in the town. Today it boasts some of the best preserved Romain Remains in the world.

Caerleon also lays claim to being Camelot. The legendary court of King Arthur, King of the Britons

 

 

  • As with all our tours, this is a private tour for groups of up to 6 people
  • .The tour is available all year round Monday to Saturday, although it is best taken between April & September. Your driver guide for the day will meet you at your hotel (or anywhere in Cardiff) at 9:30 on the morning of your tour, and drive you to each place in turn. At each stop, you will be free to explore each place freely, at you own pace. Then when you are ready to move on to the next one, simply return to the agreed location where you driver will be waiting, ready when you are.
  • .The day will end back at your hotel at around 5:30pm.
  • .There is an entry fee for Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey, Raglan Castle & Caerleon Roman Baths is NOT included in the tour fee. All four sites are owned and managed by Welsh Heritage Body CADW, and you may wish to purchase a 3 Day Explorer Pass, either in advance, of from Chepstow Castle. This will give you Free entry to any CADW site on any 3 of the next 7 days
