A40 Road Trip

Our A40 Road Trip, is perfect for those travelling from England to Ireland, and don’t have much time to see Wales. From the hustle, bustle and vibrancy of one of the biggest cities in Europe, to the tranquil and peaceful West Wales Coast.

America has Route 66. An route that travels almost from one coast to the other. The UK’s version of Route 66, is the A40. Stretching from London in the East, to Fishguard in the West, and passing through some of the most scenic parts of the UK. This two day road trip, takes you along the entire 260 mile (420km) road.

We will meet you at your Hotel in London, and head out of the city heading towards the historic university city of Oxford, where you will have a couple of hours to independantly explore the home of the second oldest university in the world.

From Oxford, you will be taken through the Cotswolds. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful parts of England, with its rolling green hills, and sandstone buildings. You will arrive in Cheltenham, where you will have the chance to spend a short time wandering round the Spa town, considered to be “the most complete Regency Town in England” admiring its many listed buildings.

From Cheltenham, you will swop one Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for another. Leaving the Cotswolds, you will be taken to Ross-On-Wye in the Wye Valley. Here you will spend the night in the birth place of Tourism. It is from Ross-on-Wye that the original Wye Tour (not to be confused with our Wye Valley Tour) began in 1782, which is considered to the worlds first package holiday.

Day two will see you cross the border into Wales, and a visit to Raglan Castle.

Then on into Bannau Brycheiniog (The Brecon Beacons) National Park, with a short stop in the town of Brecon for lunch. After lunch, you will continue through the National Park, passing through Llandovery, on the way to Carmarthen. In Carmarthen there will be a short stop, to allow you to look around one of the oldest towns in Wales. Despite being relatively small, with a population of a touch over 14,000 a surprising number of notable people hail from Carmarthen. Including several Wales Sportsmen, Entertainers and Politicians.

Then it is the final 45 mile run through Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, before arriving at journeys end in the Port Town of Fishguard, where Stenna Line sail from multiple times a day to Ireland.

Important Information:
The fee for this transfer tour does NOT include accommodation in Ross-on-Wye. We do not arrange your accommodation, and guests are free to choose where they wish to stay each night, and are required to make you own arrangements. We strongly recommend booking in Ross-on-Wye, however this is not critical, and can be anywhere in the Ross-on-Wye area. If you are not sure if the location of somewhere is suitable for the rest of the tour, we will be please to advise accordingly before anywhere is booked

Entry to Raglan Castle is included in the tour fee paid, but there may other places on the tour that you wish to visit that may have an entry fee. No Entrance to any places / venue / attraction or landmark other than Raglan Castle is included in the tour fee. Any entrance fee’s to any other attractions would be payable directly to the attraction on the day on the door.

You will have same driver for both days of this transfer tour, so you are free to leave items in the car overnight if you wish. Some guests in the past have chosen to have a “Day Bag” and a “Night Bag” and have left the Day Bag in the car overnight, so there is less to carry in and out of the hotel. Whislt we are happy for our guests to do this, we can not be held liable should anything happen to anything left in the car overnight.

This Transfer tour can be done either London to Fishguard, or Fishguard to London. If London to Fishguard, each day would begin at around 9:30am, and end around 4:00-5:00pm. If Fishguard to London, where possible we would try to arrange the tour around your landing time in Fishguard. If arriving on an afternoon, or evening ferry, we would start the tour the following day.

No Transport is provided too or from London, or too or from Fishguard.
